Federal Reserve Board issues final rule amending home mortgage provisions of Regulation Z (Truth in Lending)

The Federal Reserve Board on Monday (July 14, 2008) approved a final rule for home mortgage loans to better protect consumers and facilitate responsible lending. The rule prohibits unfair, abusive or deceptive home mortgage lending practices and restricts certain other mortgage practices. The final rule also establishes advertising standards and requires certain mortgage disclosures to be given to consumers earlier in the transaction.

TNAMB Board Presents Proposed Guidelines for Licensing, Testing and Continuing Education to DFI Commissioner Gonzales

NASHVILLE, TN - TNAMB Executive Director Brian Short presented to the TNAMB Board a set of guidelines being used by many states across the nation related to Licensing, Testing and Continuing Education requirements for mortgage originators. These proposed guidelines were accepted by the TNAMB Board and have been presented to the Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Greg Gonzales for his use in writing the Rules and Regulations for the new law giving him the authority to require mortgage originators and brokers to complete licensing, testing and continuting education.

Governor Bredesen Signs Historic Mortgage Originator Reform Bill

NASHVILLE, TN - On Thursday, June 5, 2008 Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen signed the Mortgage Originator Reform Bill that TNAMB has been working to see become law for over 7 years. Attending this signing ceremony were Tennessee Senate and House leaders along with former TNAMB President and current Government Affairs Chair, Andy Voyles, CRMS, TNAMB President Tina Christein, TNAMB Executive Director Brian Short, CMC, CRMS and TNAMB Lobbyist Jay West.

Tennessee Legislature Passes Long Awaited 2008 Mortgage Originator Reform Bill

The Tennessee General Assembly has passed legislation allowing the Commissioner of Financial Institutions to make changes in the licensing of mortgage loan originators, servicers, brokers and lenders. This sweeping legislation passed the Senate on March 17 and passed the House on April 14. As of press time, it has been transmitted to the governor for his signature.
